On June 19, 2024, the China Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (China AOPA) invited the Civil Aviation University of China, China Civil Aviation Management College, Shenzhen United Aircraft Technology Co., Ltd., State Grid Power Space Technology Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Daotong Intelligent Aviation Technology Co., Ltd. and six experts from the Standardization Technical Committee reviewed the "Technical Specifications for Medium Unmanned Aircraft Parachute System" and "Technical Specifications for Complete Aircraft Parachute" submitted by Shenzhen Tianying Equipment Technology Co., Ltd. and discussions. 


The writing team representative Shenzhen Tianying Equipment Technology Co., Ltd. reported to the experts in turn the relevant status of the first review draft of the "Technical Specifications for the Parachute System of Medium-sized Unmanned Aircraft" and the "Technical Specifications for the Parachute of the Complete Aircraft". The purpose of formulating this series of group standards is to standardize and promote the development of medium and large unmanned aircraft parachute systems, manned aircraft parachute systems and related supporting industries. Against the background of the rapid development of the low-altitude economy, unmanned aircraft, light aircraft and their supporting industries have developed rapidly. Therefore, the safety of aircraft is of vital importance, especially in the case of a crash caused by a sudden failure. How to reduce the harm of aircraft to people and objects on the ground becomes key. Installing a parachute is currently one of the most effective deceleration measures.


Unmanned aircraft are divided into micro, light, small, medium and large according to performance indicators. Different types of unmanned aircraft may have different parachutes configured due to differences in take-off weight and configuration. According to whether they are piloted or not, parachutes can be divided into manned aircraft parachutes and unmanned aircraft parachutes. The writing team formulated basic technical specifications for medium-sized unmanned aircraft parachute systems and complete aircraft parachute systems. During the formulation process, the writing team conducted extensive research, combined with the technical characteristics and future technical directions of the industry, and referred to relevant domestic and foreign standards and airworthiness requirements, covering general technical requirements, system performance requirements, strength requirements, and the design of each subsystem. requirements, environmental adaptability requirements, size and appearance quality, installation design requirements, inspection and maintenance, product labeling requirements, and test standards and methods, etc. 


At the review meeting, experts conducted in-depth discussions on the technical specifications of the medium-sized unmanned aircraft parachute system and the complete aircraft parachute, and conducted a comprehensive discussion on the standard framework, parameter requirements, test projects and methods, future development directions and other issues. After heated discussions, the technical review of both standards was finally passed unanimously. In the later stage, the writing team will revise the standard based on the opinions of experts and further optimize the standard framework and chapters so that aircraft and parachute manufacturers can operate more conveniently in actual use.      


We expect that through the formulation and improvement of parachute system technical specifications, the safety and reliability of medium-sized unmanned aircraft and complete aircraft can be further improved, and the standardized development of the industry can be promoted. China AOPA will continue to play a bridge role and work with all parties to promote technological progress and make greater contributions to vigorously developing the low-altitude economy and promoting the high-quality development of the general aviation industry.
